The Upgrader

The Upgrader centers on Ethan Cross, a worn-down auto mechanic struck by lightning who gains a unique power: anything he touches evolves into its ultimate form. Yet each use slowly turns his limbs into solid copper, a fatal physical cost. Marcus Reed, a crippled Vietnam vet running a junkyard, witnesses Ethan’s power and becomes his loyal partner. Billionaire Victoria Kane, CEO of Nexus Corp, suffers a fatal genetic decay and covets Ethan’s ability to save herself. She kidnaps Ethan’s nurse sister Gina to force cooperation. With help from teen ex-thief Jax, rebel scientist Dr. Helena Park and former mercenary Silas, Ethan and Marcus fight to destroy Victoria’s energy matrix. During the final battle, Marcus unlocks his hidden restoration power to balance Ethan’s upgrade ability. They shut down the dangerous device and free Gina. Though Ethan’s right arm stays permanently copper, they rebuild the junkyard together. A giant copper hand bursts from underground at the story’s end, hinting a bigger universal threat awaits them.
